AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer Position Available: Outreach Event Coordinator, Homeless Services Network
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Homeless Services Network of Central Florida is currently seeking to fill an AmeriCorps VISTA position coordinating outreach events for homeless persons and families in the region.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Implementing periodic Project Homeless Connect and Veterans Stand Down events throughout the year, pulling together various community partners who will provide essential services to individuals, assisting them to take the first steps towards housing and self-sufficiency.
Implementing events and building the sustainability of IDignity (providing assistance obtaining ID cards) in Orlando and satellite locations
Volunteer Recruitment and Management
Implementing an annual Point-in-Time count, which provides statistical information on how many individuals experience homelessness in our region
Coordinating an annual Homeless Person’s Memorial Service, honoring homeless individuals who have passed away throughout the year
Assisting with fundraising efforts

Volunteers Needed for Project Homeless Connect, Friday March 23rd
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Project Homeless Connect is the Homeless Services Network’s outreach to the homeless in Seminole, Orange, and Osceola Counties. It is a one day event offering more than 50 services that are critically needed by homeless persons in one convenient location.

Services offered include emergency shelter and transitional housing, mental health and substance abuse services, employment resources, food stamp assistance, Florida ID cards and birth certificates via IDignity, legal services, medical care, showers, haircuts, food, clothing and much more.

HSN will be holding the 6th annual Project Homeless Connect in Downtown Orlando on Friday, March 23, 2012. The location is First Baptist Church of Orlando, 3000 S. John Young Parkway Orlando, FL 32805. Transportation to and from the event will be provided for clients via shuttle from various locations in Downtown Orlando and Orange County.

HSN is grateful for the support of First Baptist Church of Orlando, Love Orlando, City of Orlando and Orange County Government for our event this year. In 2010, Project Homeless Connect served over 1,000 clients in Downtown Orlando. In 2012, we expect to serve the same.
