Thank you to the more than 100 volunteers who participated in the Project Homeless Connect event in Kissimmee on Friday, November 4th! You served more than 350 people!
What did we learn about the people you served?
* 19% were veterans
* 33% were women
* 45% were homeless for more than 1 year
* 71% were homeless for the first time
This event is about more than just the statistics, however. We also hope these events educate the public about homelessness. So we can also measure the impact of Project Homeless Connect by the feedback we receive from our volunteers.

Downtown Project Homeless Connect

December 4, 2009: Downtown Orlando PHC, Downtown Orlando Recreation Center, Orlando, FL
Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Volunteers can perform any of the following tasks:
* Intake (one-on-one interviews with homeless veterans, completing a simple intake form)
* Shepherd (assist veterans as they navigate the many services available)
* Distribution (hand out pre-assembled donations of food bags, clothing and backpacks)
* Showers/Clothing (maintain the shower area and assist with selection of underwear and clothing)
* Set-up/Take down (arrange/remove tables, chairs, signs)
* Crowd control (direct veterans and volunteers to registration; answer basic event questions)
We have also begun accepting registration for the Downtown Orlando PHC, being held on Friday, December 4, 2009. To register as a volunteer for the December event, please visit Downtown Orlando PHC registration page.

This is a busy time of year as HSN prepares for two Project Homeless Connect events within a month of each other.
November 6, 2009: Osceola PHC, Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee, FL
December 4, 2009: Downtown Orlando PHC, Downtown Orlando Recreation Center, Orlando, FL
Volunteers are needed to make these events a success. Volunteers can perform any of the following tasks:

Osceola Project Homeless Connect – 11/6/2009

On Friday, November 6, 2009, Homeless Services Network (HSN) is presenting a one day event to provide outreach, services and housing in a convenient one-stop model for men, women and families experiencing homelessness in Osceola County. Hosted by the Osceola Board of County Commissioners at Osceola Heritage Park, the event will offer services from more than 50 nonprofits, faith-based groups, county agencies and local businesses.
Volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Volunteers can perform any of the following tasks:
* Intake (one-on-one interviews with homeless veterans, completing a simple intake form)
* Shepherd (assist veterans as they navigate the many services available)
* Distribution (hand out pre-assembled donations of food bags, clothing and backpacks)
* Showers/Clothing (maintain the shower area and assist with selection of underwear and clothing)
